Spring Racing Carnival guide to men’s fashion

As the Melbourne weather quickly turns from a cool and windy winter to sunny spring, shirt fashion also takes a turn and allows men the opportunity to express their more fashionable side at events such as the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.  Looking the part takes a lot more than just dressing like you’re about to head into the office to update the leadership team on the latest staff engagement initiative… a careful selection of suit, business shirt, cufflinks and tie combination is required.

Here’s a few Amalfi Shirts tips to help you look the part this Spring racing season:

  • This is a great excuse to bust out the Windsor Knot, but give yourself some time to sort it out, they can be tricky.  If you need a hand, check out a handy video here: windsor knots for business shirts
  • Unless you’re directed to wear it as part of a corporate junket, the company branded polo shirt stays at the clubhouse.
  • Some good sunglasses are always a must.
  • Despite what your girlfriend may be telling you, couple dressing is not required or advisable!
  • Sunscreen (ideally stashed in your girlfriend’s handbag). In true Melbourne style you never really know if it’s going to be raining or Sunny… in fact it may do both so you don’t want to spoil your day with a bright red face or raccoon eyes from your trendy shades.  You’ve been warned.
  • Jury’s out on the retro hats. Some can pull it off, many can’t. Risk it at your own peril.
  • Accessories: Pick your sharpest looking set of cufflinks that contrast your shirt colour and match your tie.
  • Thongs (as in flip-flops) with a suit are never a good look unless you’re on your way to a Hawaiian wedding.
  • While the weather may be tempting, shorts are simply a bad idea all around. No one wants to see your hairy man legs darting from car park to car park (or marquee to marquee)

Enjoy!
