Amongst all the scandals of current sporting codes- tanking in the AFL, controversy for off field behaviour by certain NRL teams, Aussie cricketers loosing the Ashes yet whitewashing the Pomms in the one day series if you listen carefully you can here the faint trot of horses which heralds that Spring Racing is upon us again.

While you might not be too keen in entering yourself into fashions on the field it’s important to dress to impress! The Spring Racing carnival provides the perfect opportunity to dust off your best shoes, give your favourite suit a dry clean and splash out on a new business shirt to accompany your lucky tie. Buying mens business shirt is not only an important addition to your wardrobe it offers girlfriends and wives the opportunity to ensure their man is presentable and a worthy racing companion this carnival.

This season’s hot tip is to wear slim fit business shirts. Make sure it’s a quality business shirt and made from 100% Egyptian cotton which is the best money can buy. With standard dress etiquette being a jacket and tie for males and with warm weather around the corner, Egyptian cotton is easy to iron, holds it’s shape and is breathable so you can look your best all day long without the underarm sweat patches!

We suggest you buy your business shirt online. Chose an online retailer that has a range of classic designs and a slim fit cut. A blue shirt or at least a shirt that has blue in it is likely to match most suit and tie combinations and therefore one that we highly recommend. Ensure it is a quality business shirt made from 100% Egyptian cotton and that the shirt you choose is available with French cuffs as wearing cufflinks is a must for any style conscious race goer. It is important to check that the retailer offers a satisfaction guarantee and not only offers free shipping but that it is express as you can’t afford to wait weeks for your shirt now can you…

Last of all, enjoy the Spring Racing Carnival, back and a winner, don’t get sunburnt or spill your 2am souvlaki on your new business shirt!

A guide to washing mens business shirts

OK let’s face it, nobody in their right mind would really put their hand up and say that they enjoy washing! But it’s a fact of life much like paying tax or having to be nice to your inlaws… We at Amalfi Shirts have developed a bit of a guide to washing your business shirts to take some of the pain away.

  1. To start with, it’s always a good idea to check the washing instructions inside your business shirt if you’re washing it for the first time. This can usually be found on a tag on the inside left lining of your shirt.
  2. Always set the washing machine to a normal machine wash setting on the cold cycle.
  3. Remove collar stays (stiffners) before washing. All the best quality business shirts have removal collar stays, rather than collar stays that are built in to the collar.
  4. Throw in some washing powder that’s suitable for cold washing. We like the trusted ‘Cold Power Advanced’ and no we don’t have any vested interest in that company…!
  5. If it’s a top-loader machine, make sure that you’ve dispersed the washing powder/solution evenly so that it doesn’t build up in clumps on your business shirts. Another tip for top-loaders is to allow some water to start filling the machine before tipping in the washing powder.
  6. Always wash dark-coloured clothes, or new clothes where the colour might run, separately from your business shirts.
  7. Never add bleach. As it cleans, bleach also weakens the cotton fibers and reduce the life of your shirt, particularly if it’s 100% cotton.
  8. Do not tumble dry – try to put business shirts on a hanger immediately after washing away from direct sunlight in preparation for ironing.
