A guide to washing mens business shirts
OK let’s face it, nobody in their right mind would really put their hand up and say that they enjoy washing! But it’s a fact of life much like paying tax or having to be nice to your inlaws… We at Amalfi Shirts have developed a bit of a guide to washing your business shirts to take some of the pain away.
- To start with, it’s always a good idea to check the washing instructions inside your business shirt if you’re washing it for the first time. This can usually be found on a tag on the inside left lining of your shirt.
- Always set the washing machine to a normal machine wash setting on the cold cycle.
- Remove collar stays (stiffners) before washing. All the best quality business shirts have removal collar stays, rather than collar stays that are built in to the collar.
- Throw in some washing powder that’s suitable for cold washing. We like the trusted ‘Cold Power Advanced’ and no we don’t have any vested interest in that company…!
- If it’s a top-loader machine, make sure that you’ve dispersed the washing powder/solution evenly so that it doesn’t build up in clumps on your business shirts. Another tip for top-loaders is to allow some water to start filling the machine before tipping in the washing powder.
- Always wash dark-coloured clothes, or new clothes where the colour might run, separately from your business shirts.
- Never add bleach. As it cleans, bleach also weakens the cotton fibers and reduce the life of your shirt, particularly if it’s 100% cotton.
- Do not tumble dry – try to put business shirts on a hanger immediately after washing away from direct sunlight in preparation for ironing.
