Premium two-ply business shirts
Most business shirts are made of single-ply fabric, however all Amalfi Shirts are made of premium Italian two-ply fabrics. Two-ply business shirts are usually designated as such on the label, while single-ply business shirts will probably not mention ply at all. Two-ply fabrics feel silkier and make a comfortable business shirt because two individual threads are twisted together to make one yarn and tightly woven creating a very smooth, strong fabric.
100% cotton fabrics: the must for your business shirts
All Amalfi Shirts are made of 100% Cotton. Cotton is a soft fiber that grows around the seeds of the cotton plant, and is the principal clothing fiber of the world because it is a soft, comfortable and breathable textile. Cotton can retain 25 times its own weight in water and is stronger when wet than dry. Cotton absorbs and releases perspiration quickly, thus allowing the fabric to “breathe”. Cotton can stand high temperatures and takes dyes easily: the perfect fiber for all our colored and ironed clothes.
Our business shirt sizing

* All business shirts feature an adjustable double cuff.
Measuring your size
Taking your measurements is easy with a measuring tape and good posture. Make sure that the tape lays flat, and that the area you’re measuring is in natural position.
- Neck: Measure a business shirt collar that fits you well. Lay the collar flat. Starting at behind the button, measure the length to the center of the button hole.
- Chest: With your arms at your sides, measure around the fullest part of your chest and under arms.
- Sleeve Length: With your arms relaxed at your side and slightly bent, measure from the center back of your neck, over the point of your shoulder, and down the outside of your arm to your wrist.
- Note: Don’t panic. If you’re not satisfied with the fit of your Amalfi Shirt, we’ll happily exchange your shirt for another size.
Washing guide
![]()
1. Normal machine wash on cold or warm cycle.
2. Wash dark-coloured business shirts separately.
3. Do not add bleach.
4. Do not tumble dry – Hang shirts immediately after washing or lie flat away from direct sunlight.
5. Remove collar stiffeners before laundering.
6. Disperse washing powders/solutions evenly and commence washing immediately.
Ironing guide
1. It’s easier and better for the fabric, to iron a business shirt when it is damp. It will also make it easier to get out all the wrinkles. The assistance of an ironing agent may also be useful.
2. Check if there is any stain before pressing because the heat from an iron can fix permanently the stain into the fabric.
3. Set the fabric dial of your iron to the appropriate setting (in general ‘cotton’ for business shirt)
4. Start ironing the back of the collar, then the front. Start at the points and move inward.
5. Lay one shoulder over the narrow edge of the board and iron it, shifted your shirt as needed. Iron the second shoulder in the same way.
6. Open cuffs fully and iron inside first and then outside.
7. Lay flat one sleeve and iron it. Start with the back side, front side second and take extra care on armhole
seams.
8. Hang shirt over board so that one front panel of the shirt can be extended flat. Iron from shoulder to shirttail.
9. Rotate shirt over board so that you iron the back next, and the other front panel last.
10. Hang your shirt immediately on a hanger to avoid wrinkles (avoid wire hangers which can destroy the shape of your dress shirt).
Stain removal guide
When you make stains on your business shirts, it is important to act immediately before the substance has time to penetrate into the fibres, and become fixed. For stubborn stains around collars and cuffs soak overnight in cold water. Here are some tips for main stains:
- Grease: Always use hot water on fatty stains to dissolve the fat.
- Red wine: Eliminate the excess and rinse well with cold water.
- Sauces: Rinse with hot water and scrub with hard soap. If stains remain, soak the dress shirt in warm water with a small amount of vinegar.
- Mud: Let the mud dry and then brush it off. Rinse with cold water and rub a little to remove the dirt.
- Blood: Rinse with cold salty water and then apply cold soapy water.
- Ink: Ink stains need a chemical treatment so bring your shirt to a dry cleaner.
Matching shirts & ties
Solid color business shirts provide a classic look and can match easily with most ties.
Patterned business shirts can be more difficult to match however here are some tips to ensure a perfect match:
- You can wear a striped shirt with a striped tie as long as the stripes aren’t identical in size.
- You can have a pattern on pattern when one pattern is much bolder than the other.
- Make sure at least one color in your tie matches your suit, shirt, or your belt/shoes.
- Avoid wearing a striped business shirt with a striped tie and a pin-striped suit. Matching three similar patterns together is rarely a winning combination.
